MLK Weekend Competitions, Training, Weather and Powder Plan.

Hello and Welcome to the approach of MLK Weekend!

There is plenty going on at this time every season and this year is no exception. On the one hand our double halfpipe at Okemo for Saturday is postponed and tacked onto the 2/9 and 2/10 Halfpipes at Mount Snow. On the other hand it is going so snow buckets! Thank God. But that does mean that Sunday will be in question if it is unsafe, unridable on the course, un-judgeable or transportation just isn't happening. And yet again on that other, other hand extreme cold temps are lining up for Sunday night with a low of -17 and a high of -11 for Monday on the mountain. So please be ready for Monday to be spent indoors. We will be here but riding will be brutal and potentially unsafe! I will email and post if we do decide to close up and keep the coaches inside. Friday should go as planned.

SBX #1 and 2 At Stratton is In The Books!

SBX #1 and 2 At Stratton is In The Books!

Super Job racing on the great course that Stratton Provided for SBX #1 and 2 of The Southern Vermont Ski and Snowboard Series.  USASA Racing is alive and well and SWSC is proud to be a part. That course is going to really boost our training opportunities in the coming weeks and we hope to add some more technical features for the next go round too. SWSC is proud of the racers and the crew who helped pull this event together. I hope everyone gets a chance to thank Coach Wylie for the skillfull Cat driving and Coach Raschid for the consultation, shovel work and lost sleep!

Most importantly of course are the courage and effort of the riders. Everyone wants to win but it takes a durable mindset to keep putting in the work, re-evaluating and working again. So make sure you share your pride and love with your kids early and often in the team effort. Here we Go Boardercross Season! (aka SBX)

Here we Go Boardercross Season! (aka SBX)

Good Morning! The SBX course is being built and the banks are lining up nicely. We are very excited to bring this event off as the best opening of a Boardercross Course and Races that Stratton Has hosted yet. I personally approve of the alignment and design and when it is done and riding great I will share where all the credit goes! Feel free to get excited. We love the Cross Course Here as it is fun for everyone and makes the best all around snowboarders of any contest or training features and venues.

First Please note: we will have official Comp Team Training blending in with open contest venue training this Friday. As hosts our coaching staff will be working course marshalling and maintaining but we will have someone ready to meet at 9 am at our Regular meeting area. We will also inspect and analyze with the kids and coach them just as at a race but they will be lapping in groups with their team-mates and or sometimes solo. Friday training for Comp Team ends when the course closes and we will have waxing advice for everyone that definitely recommends very cold weather wax!

Flashback to last year...It will be Zero degrees thursday night and only coming up to about 7 degrees on friday so expect tough conditions when sending your kids out Friday, Saturday and Sunday...negative temps at night with highs barely over 10 during the days...

Friday 1/11/19...9 AM meeting...inspections until 9:45...course opens to 50-75% of full speed at 10:00 am...10:30 wide open. Marshalling and responsible participation in full effect all day.

1/12/19 race day...7:30-8:30 is registration and check in at west end of Main Base Lodge.

8:30 - Lifts open - Course will be on Byrneside Trail

8:45 – 9:00 – Course inspection – Athletes and Coaches allowed to slip course.

9:00- 9:45 - Course open for practice – Competitors must have bib and helmet on.

10:00 - Mandatory competitor and coaches meeting at top of course. Start list will be posted at that time at the top of the course and on Team App. Please join USASA Southern Vermont Series team on the Team App for information, schedules, start lists, and results.

10:05 - 12:00 - One run time trial to determine seedings for age group.

12:30 - @ 2:30 - All heat races. Awards in the village across from Mulligans 30 minutes after final race.

Schedules are always likely to change and I cannot stress enough the need for all parents to load and join Team App for timely info. We don't get anything any faster or more accurate than the news, schedules and results that go up on that App.
